On Monday, May 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., the Hardy Plant Society will visit one of the most interesting museums and gardens in Philadelphia.

The College of Physicians’ Mutter Museum, founded in1863 contains a fascinating collection of specimens, models, and medical instruments. Among the amazing specimens on display are Einstein’s brain, the woman who turned to soap, and the tallest human skeleton in North America. All this may sound strange, but it is the epitome of a 19th century scientific museum, housed in a magnificent building located at 19 S. 22nd Street (between Market and Chestnut) in center city Philadelphia. The garden was an inspiration of Benjamin Rush. The current garden was constructed in 1937 and beautifully restored and expanded two years ago. It contains over 60 different medicinal herbs, all well labelled with their botanical names and medical uses. There are also lovely trees, shrubs, and perennials, and inviting seating areas.

The tour will be followed by lunch in a beautiful room and terrace overlooking the garden.

There is no charge for the tour and lunch, both are open to members and nonmembers and limited to 16 people. Reservations are required.

Registration is closed for this event.  To be added to the waitlist email:  [email protected]
