"Grounded and Surrounded: Soft Landings"

Speaker:  Leslie Pilgrim

Soft landings are diverse native plantings under keystone trees (or any other regionally appropriate native trees). These plantings provide critical shelter and habitat for one or more life cycle stages of moths, butterflies, and beneficial insects such as bumble bees, fireflies, lacewings, and beetles. In addition to plants, soft landings also include leaf litter, duff, and plant debris. Learn about the critical importance of soft landings and how to incorporate more of these types of plantings into your own landscape.

Leslie Pilgrim is a conservation gardener, writer, artist, market researcher, businessperson, founder of Neighborhood Greening, editor of the publications The Butterfly Effect, Wild Ones Reflections, and Life in the Anthropocene, and the former co-president of Wild Ones Twin Cities. She is an involved community member with a deep passion for helping rescue our rapidly deteriorating environment. In addition to an accounting degree and an MBA, Leslie has a certificate in ecological restoration and a Watershed Technician certification, both from the University of Minnesota. She is also currently working her way through the Native Plant Trust's Native Plant Certification Program.
