The Flowers in Your Winter Garden – What, Why, How, Where:

Part 3 – Choosing the Best Winter-Flowering Perennials and Bulbs

Speaker: Charles Cresson

The winter garden does not need to be a static affair. Once you learn how to garden deliberately for the winter season, a succession of hardy flowers can adorn your garden and entertain you with color and fragrance throughout the colder months. Envision snowdrops, winter aconites, adonis, witch hazel, viburnum, mahonia, camellias and more, creating a dynamic scene against a background of evergreens, colored stems, bark and berries.  And imagine that this theater of winter flowers is staged where you can readily enjoy the changing cast of characters from the warmth and comfort of your home.

Charles Cresson will teach us how to achieve this vision in a series of three virtual (via Zoom) presentations. Learn how winter-flowering shrubs, perennials and bulbs survive, thrive and bloom. Learn how to select these plants and where to plant them, utilizing microclimates to increase their performance. Learn how to design the winter garden for maximum effect in sun and shade.

In Part 3 of the series, Charles will present “Choosing the Best Winter-Flowering Perennials and Bulbs.” Be prepared to find yourself adding items to your spring shopping list of must-have perennials, and to your fall shopping list for bulbs.  Handouts will be sent to registered attendees prior to the lecture.
