An Outing to Fernbrook Farms – Tour/Shop/Lunch at The InnJoin us for what promises to be a fun spring day down on the farm – Fernbrook Farms. Tour the gardens and arboretum on foot, take a wagon ride through the production fields, shop at the Education Center, and top it off with a delicious lunch at the historic Inn at Fernbrook Farms. Fernbrook Farms is a multifaceted 230-acre preserved farmland that will forever be a place for friends and families to come together, learn, laugh, and create stories. The oldest building on the farm, The Inn (c. 1760) has been a center of warmth and hospitality for many years through weddings, events, dinners, and more. At our CSA, over 500 families get a weekly share of fresh, delicious, organic vegetables as they get to experience the sources of their food firsthand. The education center engages several thousand children each year as they experience the wonder of nature and learn about the sources of their food. The wholesale nursery grows and sells a large variety of native, ornamental, conifers, shade, container, and flowering plants, trees and shrubs from Maine to Virginia. During the walking tour of the sundial garden and arboretum, they will cover a little history of the farm (125 years in their family), and we will take a wagon ride tour of the field and container production (approx. 80 acres) areas. Their container production specializes in native deciduous azaleas (17 species in North America), rhododendrons, hard to find trees (Davidia, etc.), and many other unusual plants; field production is about flowering and shade trees, conifers, hollies, osmanthus, cephalotaxus, etc. We will be able to purchase nursery plants that they grow in containers as our visit will coincide with their annual 'Plant, Tomato and Herb' sale, a fundraising event for Fernbrook Farms Environmental Education Center. For more information: https://www.fernbrookfarms.com/. Lunch at The Inn will be a 'Farm to Table' buffet offering green salad, chicken salad, bean salad(V); lemonade, iced tea or water, followed by baked goods. We will be able to sit inside or outside the historic inn. This is a Members Only event. Registration is required. $50 per attendee, which includes the tour and lunch. Maximum number of guests is 35.
