Guided Tour of Morris Arboretum – Oaks of the Mid-Atlantic

The guided tours of Morris Arboretum offered by HPS since January 2022 have been popular events with our members. A special collaboration with the Morris Arboretum allows us to offer docent-guided tours throughout the year focused on specific types of trees within the arboretum’s renowned collection. This tour will focus on oaks. As the environmentalist and author Doug Tallamy has said, the majestic oak trees are critical to our planet because they provide more food and habitat for our native wildlife than any other tree by far.

Take a break from raking leaves to come to the Morris Arboretum and join an experienced guide in discovering and identifying the Mid-Atlantic oaks in the Arboretum's extensive collection. Every region of our planet where oaks are present has a unique profile of oaks that populate that area. Learn how to differentiate our local oaks, including the bur oak, white oak, red oak, black oak, and chestnut oak. Explore the acorn variety of different trees and enjoy the glorious colors of autumn.

The tour begins at the Widener Visitor Center and will leave promptly at 1:00 PM. Dress for the weather; this is a walking tour.

The arboretum’s hours are 10 AM - 4 PM. Tour attendees may arrive early or stay after the tour to further explore the arboretum. The gift shop and restrooms will be open.
