A Visit to Clinton and Anastasia’s Vent Du Sud Garden

Clinton and Anastasia found their beautiful Victorian house on 3 acres on the south side of a hill in 1979. The “old shade” already there included two giant red oaks which shade the house on the east and west, four different varieties of 135-year-old Chamaecyparis pisifera, a giant sweetgum, and several large Norway spruce. The entire property is a microclimate, on the south side of a hill, backed by the sun but protected from the wind by huge trees on all sides. From the French, Vent Du Sud translates to “Wind from the South.”

In 2005 Clinton and Anastasia carved out the hillside below the house to install an adult cocktail swimming pool and terraces for perennials and shrubs, including daylilies and hydrangeas, that bloom in the summer. Hosta fill in the shady spots. Over 20 varieties of crepe myrtle should be in full bloom in time for our visit.  The 12-foot-high Hydrangea aspera subsp. sargentiana that used to freeze back to the ground before global warming is a marvel.

Light refreshments will be set up in the kitchen/conservatory. We may even be invited on a tour of the Victorian Lady - built in 1889 and being restored for 45 years!

This is a Members Only event, but registration is required. $5 per attendee.Maximum number of guests is 50.
