Meet the Meadow Challenge – ID 50 Top Meadow PlantsJoin us for this fun pop-up where you can test your knowledge of meadow plants. As you casually amble about a beautiful, naturalistic, meadow-style garden – Goodly Gardens in Lansdale, PA – you will work on your own (or with a buddy) to discover and identify many of the top plants suited for meadow-style gardens in our area. These include cool and warm season ornamental grasses, wildflowers, etc., many of which are the same plants used in public gardens designed by Piet Oudoulf. You will be provided with an extensive plant list. As you walk about, decide on your sleuthing tactics, then as you find a plant, check it off your list. All the plants on the list are growing at Goodly Gardens, which has 10 naturalistic garden beds and over 1500 sq ft of meadow within a 3,000 sq ft landscape. Naturalistic meadow-style plantings focus on structure, maturing features, and flower accents, in dense arrangements. The garden owner, Thom Mrazik, will be onsite to offer helpful clues, answer questions, and to cheer you on to success. Thom’s Goodly Gardens is a four-time PHS Blue Ribbon Award-winning home garden, as well as a Penn State Extension-certified pollinator- and watershed-friendly garden. Thom is a Penn State Extension Master Gardener. He has generously given of his time to HPS/MAG, presenting several virtual talks, hosting numerous pop-ups, and contributing articles to our newsletter. This event is perfectly timed in that an exciting new garden – Oudolf's Calder Gardens in Philadelphia – is scheduled to open September 2025 (https://caldergardens.org/). A plant list will be sent in your registration reminder a couple of days before the event. Members and non-members are welcome. Registration is required. This event is free for Members; cost for Non-members is $5. No registration limit; all registrants are welcome. Registration opens May 28th. Registration closes July 7th. Click here if you would like to become a member of HPS/MAG before registering for this event. Address and parking directions will be sent to all registrants in their confirmation email.
